She is the daughter-in-law of James and Zelma Long, who were murdered by Carmen Deck in their Jefferson County home in 1996. Deck is on death row and had his case heard by the U.S. Supreme Court in March 2005.
The Criminal Division represents the state in every felony case, including capital cases, appealed to the Supreme Court of Missouri and the three districts of the Missouri Court of Appeals (Eastern, Western and Southern). Each year, the division's attorneys litigate more than 900 felony appeals in those courts.
