Obtaining a death certificate
You probably will need a copy of the deceased's death certificate to settle the estate. A funeral director usually will help you with this. Death certificates also are available at most local health departments. Or you can get the death certificate by writing:

You can download an application for a death certificate at www.dhss.mo.gov/BirthAndDeathRecords/ or include in a letter the deceased's full name at death, date of death, place of death, your relationship to the person and the reason for requesting the record. A fee of $13 per copy must accompany the request. Make your check or money order payable to Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Do not send cash. Allow about two weeks for processing.
